VIRTUAL PRODUCTION

ABOUT

Slice 5 (2).png

Our virtual production studio is under construction. We are rebuilding our stages to fit large LED screens and the latest film gear.

While we are building, we are focused on testing new technologies in the small 100 sqm LED Lab

Creating virtual sets

Virtual sets, landscapes, interiors, skies, and props are created in Unreal Engine.
Filmmakers can explore digital locations on screen or in VR. Directors, cinematographers (DPs), and production designers can collaborate remotely. Sets may be approved before any physical construction or travel, significantly reducing production time and cost.

Displaying content

Large LED walls or projection systems are used to display 3D content in real time.
This allows actors to interact with environments that are generated digitally rather than built physically. Changes to lighting, time of day, weather, or layout can be made instantly. Directors see near-final visuals directly on set rather than months later in post-production.

Virtual lights in Unreal Engine respond to real camera movement. LED walls provide accurate interactive lighting for actors and props, while reflections from virtual environments appear naturally on reflective surfaces such as cars, helmets, and glass.

Physical camera tracking

Camera position, rotation, focus, zoom, and lens distortion data are fed into Unreal Engine.
The engine renders perspective-correct backgrounds based on this data, ensuring the virtual camera matches the physical camera precisely. Virtual objects remain locked in place as the camera moves.

Only the camera’s visible frustum is rendered at full quality, creating realistic parallax, reflections, and lighting directly in camera.

Real-time compositing

Unreal Engine combines live camera feed, virtual environments, CG characters and props, color grading and visual effects in real time. This allows immediate creative decisions on set. In many cases, the final image is captured directly in camera, except when Digital Extensions are used.

Digital Extensions

Digital Extensions are a virtual production technique used to extend real, physical sets with digital scenery in real time, making the environment appear larger, deeper, or more complex than what is physically built.

In short, Digital Extensions visually expand real studio sets with real-time CG environments, seamlessly blending physical and digital spaces during live production.
